Families First’s domestic violence support groups are completely voluntary and confidential.
It is a place for sharing, support, hope, and healing! These groups are for anyone who is currently experiencing or has experienced past domestic violence in its many forms, including physical, verbal, emotional, sexual, and economic abuse. Tuesdays from pm to pm in downtown Indianapolis Wednesdays from pm to pm on the Southeast side of Indianapolis Exact locations will be given once registration has occurred. Childcare may be available with advanced notification. This is an 8-week educational support group for families who have experienced or witnessed domestic violence.
This group is intended to assist the family unit in the healing process by allowing each member of the family a safe space to learn, share and grow. Adults, children and teens who have experienced, witnessed or want education about domestic violence.
Participants learn about safety planning; the dynamics of abuse; how to communicate feelings, set boundaries, and improve self-esteem. When and where does the Family Focused Support Group meet? Participants must pre-register, and new members will not be added once the 8-week series has begun. The parent/legal guardian and their child must meet with an advocate to register prior to joining a group.
Support groups are made up of people with shared experiences and circumstances who support, comfort and encourage each other.
Our support groups are NOT therapist-led groups but rather a place where the members can learn from each other and share each other’s journey towards healing.
Non-priority (general) registration is handled on a lottery basis.
